TikTok fails to Block Misleading Political Advertisements

On a test conducted by researchers from the Global Witness and the Cybersecurity for Democracy team at the New York University Tandon School of Engineering, TikTok failed to catch 90 percent of ads featuring false and misleading messages about elections. On the other hand, YouTube and Facebook identified and blocked most of them, according to an experiment. However, researchers found that if they published data from locations outside the United States, it was easier to bypass Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok safeguards.

Strong Decline Expected for 2023 Ad Spending

A media investment firm that conducts industry research predicts that ad spending will grow 4.8% instead of the previously foresaw 5.8% next year. Regardless of the less hopeful outlook, ad growth is still expected to happen due to growing retail media networks bringing marketing budgets into digital advertising, programmatic spending in digital audio and digital out-of-home formats, and new ad-supported tiers from streaming services.

Streaming Platforms Make New Move After Earning Reports

After earnings reports were release, Netflix and Disney+ announced they are launching ad-supported versions of their streaming services. They will join a crowded field with streaming services owned by media companies and device makers. However, marketers revealed mixed feelings regarding this because running ads on streaming platforms remains filled with challenges. A substantial increase is expected in TV Ad spending by 2025 due to the integration of streaming platform advertising.
