Bloomberg Environment Adds Reporter
Bloomberg Environment has hired Kellie Lunney as a senior reporter. Lunney covers Congress and public lands for Greenwire and E&E News. She will start at Bloomberg Environment on May 11.
New Hire at Vogue Business
Sarah Shannon has been hired as editorial director of Vogue Business. She will start on May 18. Vogue Business launched in January 2019, as Condé Nast’s first business media title covering the fashion, beauty and luxury industries. Shannon will oversee editorial teams based in London, as well as journalists around the world.
Cheddar Closes LA Studio
Cheddar, the live-streaming business news outlet, has permanently closed its Los Angeles studio amid company-wide layoffs. The layoffs are part of a recent consolidation of Cheddar’s two live-streamed networks — the business-focused Cheddar and the quick-hit, general news-focused Cheddar News — into one.
Layoffs at Protocol
It was only two and a half months ago that Protocol, the tech site launched by parent company of Politico, debuted on the scene. Last week, Protocol announced it was laying off 13 staffers, an astonishingly quick turnaround and a sign of how hard coronavirus is hitting even media companies that seemed set for the long haul.
Departures at The Information
Tech news site The Information reporter Kevin Dugan, who covered Wall Street, regulation and Silicon Valley, has left the publication. He joined The Information in October after working for The New York Post. Ashley Gold, a Washington-based reporter covering technology policy for The Information, is also leaving. Moreover, Priya Anand who covered startups and venture capital for the company will leave to join Bloomberg Technology.
CNN Staff to WFH till September
CNN won’t send staffers back into its offices until at least September. In an internal email obtained by The Daily Beast, network chief Jeff Zucker told staff that the vast majority of company staff will “not be returning to the office in any significant way” before the end of summer.
Axios Receives PPP Funding
Axios is among the small businesses that has received approximately $5 million from the government PPP Fund. The loan was made to sustain the organization and protect existing jobs during the coronavirus pandemic.
Who Follows COVID-19 News?
More than two-thirds of adults ages 65 or older (69%) said they were following news of the pandemic very closely, according to Pew Research. At the other end of the spectrum, about four-in-ten Americans between the ages of 18 and 29 (42%) said they were paying as much attention to COVID-19 news. Those adults ages 30 to 49 and ages 50 to 64 fall in between.
